While at the Expo there were plenty of auto feeder, harvest pumps, probiotics, feeds and genetics companies represented – all with good additive to industry kits on display. No game changing stuff.
On the speakers and presentation side one thing was noticeable….at least to me…
…the sudden proliferation of shrimp industry market analysts.
And that now being divided into countries…oh, the competition…
…anyway the overall most useful presentation was from Urner Barry.
UB is, of course, the go-to place for vannamei and black tiger global trend watching, that, and the global news as well, of course.
Once aware what more is needed?…started trading shrimp out of Ecuador in the 1990’s.
Later in the 2000’s was running analytical futures forecasting (super!) for governments, private industry on markets, fishing quotas, price negotiations, aquaculture, where UB was always the go to initial data trade provider.
However turns out was not enough for Europe but later in managed to sift through yearly all the shrimp trade data via the HS customs codes…did that for several years…
Why go with anything else than UB, as a shrimp farmer? …and here is the caveat – for growing and trading commodity grown vannamei in, wait for it….
…the Western Hemisphere.
There is enough global data for Western hemisphere commodity vannamei shrimp farmers at UB.
So can understand the SEAsia and Indian sub-continent view section presented also at the AquaExpo Guayaquil.
But did believe the overproduction story line sent over was a bit lame.
Finally the thought was about the market analysts competition – yes, we should get a prize together…
